The Mall Over the Years
Boronia Mall, originally known as Boronia Shoppingtown, officially opened on September 10, 1973, inaugurated by the Honourable R.J. Hamer, Premier of Victoria.
Designed to cater to the burgeoning suburb of Boronia, this shopping centre featured over 30 retail outlets, with Kmart as its anchor tenant, and provided free parking for over 1,000 vehicles.
The mall's architecture and design reflect the 1970s era, making it a distinctive time capsule in Melbourne's eastern suburbs.
Over the decades, Boronia Mall has witnessed various changes in tenancy and consumer trends, yet it remains a notable landmark, encapsulating the evolution of suburban shopping experiences in Victoria.
A number of the photos here are from various Christmas, Easter and School Holiday events over the years and have been in archival storage for many decades. We hope you enjoy viewing these snapshots of the history for the Boronia Mall!
